Gauge: 2 1/4 inches across center of shell
Materials: 10 oz. each Color A, B, C
With Color A, ch 130
Row 1: 1 sc in second ch from hook, *skip 3 ch, 9 dc in next ch, skip 3 ch, 1 sc in next ch, repeat from * across row (16 patterns). Draw Color B through last loop on hook, break Color A strand and fasten to Color B, turn.
Row 2: (Color B) Ch 2, *yo, insert hook in first dc, draw yarn through st, yo and through 2 loops (loosely), repeat from * in each of the next 3 sts (5 loops on hook), then yo and through all 5 loops, ch 1 for eye of inverted half shell, **ch 3, 1 sc in next dc, ch 3, then repeat from * in each of the next 9 sts (10 loops on hook), then yo and through all 10 loops, ch 1 for eye of shell, repeat from ** across, ending draw yarn through 6 loops on hook, ch 1 for eye of half shell, turn.
Row 3: (Color B) Ch 3, 4 dc in eye of half shell, 1 sc in next sc, *9 dc in eye of next shell, 1 sc in next sc, repeat from * across, ending 5 dc in eye of last half shell. Draw Color C through last loop on hook, break Color B strand and fasten to Color C, turn.
Row 4: (Color C) Ch 1, 1 sc in first dc, **ch 3, *yo, insert hook in next st, draw yarn through st, yo and through 2 loops, repeat from * in each of the next 8 sts (10 loops on hook), then yo and through all 10 loops, ch 1 for eye of shell, ch 3, 1 sc in next st, repeat from ** across row, turn.
Row 5: (Color C) Ch 1, *1 sc in sc, 9 dc in eye of next shell, repeat from * across, ending 1 sc in last st, draw Color A through last loop on hook, break Color C and fasten to Color A. Repeat from row 2 for pattern st, always working 2 rows with each color, repeat Color A, B, and C stripes, until there are 12 stripes of each color, excluding row 1 (border will complete Color A stripe at start). Do not break Color A yarn but continue working around 3 sides of Afghan for border, working 9 dc in eye of shells, 1 sc between shells, Break yarn and fasten.
